If only I had known about Bach remedies, Clicker Training, Crystal healing, Reiki healing, Shiatsu healing, along with natural horsemanship I would not have taken so long to help this wonderful little horse.
Only when physical trauma, abuse, fear, and emotional issues are dealt with can real progress happen. Many things can happen to horses just in the field which can impede their ability to function on all levels.
People can do so many things to horses that are not intentionally meant to damage, hurt and traumatise them. Badly fitting tack, poor shoeing, lack of communication, fear, unbalanced riding, insensitive transporting etc. The list is endless. Only if we truly allow our horses to have some say in their lives and allow them to be individuals with strengths and weaknesses can we see their true spirit. The power of moving blocked energy to heal is amazing.
I have been working very closely with my friend, Bernice Mann, using Shiatsu and had amazing and wonderful healing results in the horses we have treated together. Moving energy to enable the horse to begin to realise its full potential is awesome. Bernice has identified problems in my horses I didn’t realise were there and moved everything on by identifying and dealing with blocked energy.
In 2002 it all came together for Zahra and she started competing in Endurance riding and has progressed to Intermediate level. She is a joy to ride. We have finally found a way to reach all the dragons that were stopping her development and removed them.
There was no single tool that was an answer to the most screwed up horse I’d ever dealt with. It was a mixture of holistic healing, trust, natural horsemanship and Clicker training. On Sunday 6th April 2003 Zahra became an Advanced endurance horse doing 66 kilometres (40 miles) at Wiltshire Droves and received a Grade 1 at a speed of 13.9 kilometres an hour and a final pulse rate of 43. A wonderful ride, she really enjoyed it and it was a day we’d been aiming at and finally achieved. She was confident, careful and balanced. She danced along. I was so proud of her and how far she had come and how much she had taught me.
The most amazing tool for communication has been Clicker Training once Zahra’s physical, emotional, and spiritual problems were dealt with. It allows me to communicate exactly what is needed and all the horses have extraordinary enthusiasm for learning and can’t wait for their turn. It has been a revelation. Came in useful at the racecourse at Wiltshire Droves where Zahra had to walk onto paper in the stable!
I have been using natural horsemanship for several years but Clicker training has added a great depth of understanding. You can see the horses trying to work out what is needed for themselves. It is not just the food reward it is a total focus on a shared working towards a goal. It has also proved so useful for everyday things like standing totally still whilst the vet takes x-rays, accepting treatment for wounds without moving etc.
